Creating a physician-led quality imperative.

This commentary relates one hospital's experience with engaging physician leadership in quality improvement efforts by involving physicians in selecting recommended interventions and assigning champions to direct them. The authors summarize the results of this initiative, which include reduced rates of certain hospital-acquired conditions and increased use of the WHO surgical safety checklist.
