Patients, clinicians, and health care systems are increasingly adopting digital health tools, from telemedicine programs to wearable devices and mobile applications. This commentary discusses many safety advances prompted by digital health, but also raises concerns about several threats to patient safety that have not yet been addressed. For example, software applications can be unreliable and unsafe. The authors provide multiple suggestions for ensuring the safe implementation of digital health technology.
