In this study of nearly 13,000 prostate biopsy specimens, approximately 1% were either contaminated with tissue from another patient or were misidentified as being from another patient entirely. Although the study did not directly measure the impact of such misidentification, the findings raise concern that diagnostic errors may have occurred as a result.
