Organizational resilience and an emphasis on Safety-II (e.g., learning from things that go right) can support patient safety improvements. These authors discuss how four adaptive performance modes – just-in-time, just-for-now, just-in-case, and just-this-way performance – play out in acute care settings and their relationship to Safety-II and resilience.
