Work-arounds and artifacts during transition to a computer physician order entry: what they are and what they mean.

Computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems continue to be slowly adopted while concerns about their unintended consequences have been reported. This study describes a series of workarounds that developed after adoption of CPOE at an academic center and its impact on nursing workflow.
