Systematic video game training in surgical novices improves performance in virtual reality endoscopic surgical simulators: a prospective randomized study.

This randomized controlled trial found that medical students assigned to an intensive regimen of playing "shooter" video games demonstrated significantly superior endoscopic abilities than students who merely played a computer chess game. This study builds on a growing body of research on the importance of video games in surgical training.
