In search of common ground in handoff documentation in an intensive care unit.

This analysis of paper-based signouts used by nurses and physicians in a cardiac intensive care unit identified several ways in which written signouts facilitate communication. The article also discusses how electronic medical record signout modules should preserve and improve on the strengths of written materials.
