Surgeon fatigue: a prospective analysis of the incidence, risk, and intervals of predicted fatigue-related impairment in residents.

This study discovered that orthopedic residents were fatigued 48% of their waking hours and had impaired mental effectiveness 27% of that time. The authors discuss the pervasiveness of fatigue and the need for greater preventive strategies.
