Development of the Leapfrog methodology for evaluating hospital implemented inpatient computerized physician order entry systems.
Kilbridge PM, Welebob EM, Classen DC. Qual Saf Health Care. 2006;15:81-84.

This commentary discusses an evidence-based methodology for determining the success with which a computerized provider order entry (CPOE) system is implemented and operational at a given hospital. The strategies presented stem from The Leapfrog Group, who established CPOE as one of their primary mechanisms to improve the safety and quality of care. The authors discuss development of the methodology and the establishment and refinement of the evaluation tool, which includes a specific grading system. The grading system emphasizes testing clinical decision support features and their capacity to prevent adverse drug events. A past article discussed the role of The Leapfrog Group in the health care market.
