Communicating in the "gray zone": perceptions about emergency physician-hospitalist handoffs and patient safety.

This qualitative study describes the factors contributing to poor handoffs between emergency room providers and hospitalists. Key findings included a variety of communication barriers and faulty expectations of the process itself.
