This systematic review examined a possible relationship between physician working conditions and patient safety. Among the 21 included studies, use of varying outcome measures for quality and lack of comparability in conceptualizing working conditions and in the mechanisms linking working conditions to care quality all precluded drawing conclusions about this important relationship. The authors recommend further research to define the patient safety implications of physician working conditions.
