Adherence to prescribing guidelines may help mitigate misuse of prescription opioids. In this cluster-randomized trial, researchers found that a multicomponent intervention targeting primary care providers improved adherence to opioid prescribing guidelines. An accompanying editorial highlights challenges associated with chronic pain management and suggests directions for further research.
