Patients with obesity are vulnerable to various safety challenges associated with equipment limitations and physiologic complexity. This commentary discusses how weight bias can influence clinician interaction with this patient population and affect health care safety. The author calls for raising awareness of the consequences of this bias and suggests clinician training and organizational efforts to counteract such behavior. A past WebM&M commentary examined a case of delayed diagnosis in a patient with obesity.
