Adenocarcinoma in situ of the uterine cervix: screening and diagnostic errors in Papanicolaou smears.
In this study, Papanicolaou (Pap) smears positive for adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) or AIS combined with a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (AIS + HSIL) were compared to false-negative Pap smears taken within the prior 3 years. Sampling error was the main cause of false-negative diagnosis.
