A seminal report described the lack of formal curricula for patient safety in medical education as an unmet need. This commentary reviews a 1-day session that presented a core curriculum in patient safety to third-year medical students, half of whom declared at the program onset that they had no awareness of systems approaches to enhance safety. The session employed simulation, root cause analysis, and online modules as educational tactics. Participants reported feeling more comfort with acting on safety concerns after attending the session.
