ChatGPT is a popular artificial intelligence (AI) tool used by healthcare providers and the public, but its accuracy and completeness are still under investigation. This study used 39 medication-related questions submitted by healthcare professionals to a pharmacy service. Trained investigators researched the literature to develop the benchmark response, then ChatGPT was prompted with the same question, with a request to include references to support the response. Only 10 responses were deemed satisfactory, with most deficiencies noted as lack of direct response, lack of accuracy, and lack of completeness. Only eight responses included references, and at least one reference per question was fabricated (i.e., a hallucination).
