The effect of facility complexity on perceptions of safety climate in the operating room: size matters.

Carney BT, West P, Neily J, et al. American journal of medical quality : the official journal of the American College of Medical Quality. 2010;25:457-61.

This study found that caregiver perceptions of safety climate vary by facility complexity, which is defined by a hospital's volume, risk, teaching, research, and intensive care unit capability. The authors suggest that adoption of safety interventions, such as checklists, should take into account these differences when implementing change.
