Increasing adoption of clinical decision support systems (CDSS) has been suggested to positively impact patient care. This systematic review analyzed nearly 70 studies published through 1998, noting the rapid trend toward a greater quantity and quality of available research in this area. While the findings demonstrate improvements in clinical performance for drug dosing, preventive care, and other defined aspects of clinical practice, the impact of CDSS on patient outcomes is limited, requiring further investigation.
