Graduating medical students were required to pass a standardized patient examination during which they were also required to document their diagnostic reasoning process. The investigators found that evaluating students' diagnostic reasoning may have potential for more accurately identifying poorly performing students, as cognitive biases associated with diagnostic error were common in this group.
