The development of a case-based approach to educate patients and providers about patient safety is described. Using several modes of dissemination—a series in a peer-reviewed journal, website development, and lay press publication—the authors describe their process and its successful application. Authors Wachter and Shojania were awarded the John Eisenberg Award in 2004 for their work.
