Checklist use can improve adherence to safety processes. This project report describes the use of failure mode and effects analysis to identify process weaknesses in perioperative acetaminophen administration in pediatric anesthesia. Researchers developed a five-step checklist to augment safety of IV acetaminophen administration and focused on staff awareness and engagement, improving communication, enhancing accuracy of medication documentation, and use of a paper checklist to drive compliance.
