The Leapfrog Group initially focused on three patient safety practices to reduce preventable medical errors: computer physician order entry (CPOE), evidence-based hospital referral, and intensive care unit (ICU) physician staffing. Survey results indicate improvements in all three areas after regional use of these benchmarks.
