Missed opportunities for diagnosis: lessons learned from diagnostic errors in primary care.

Goyder CR, Jones CHD, Heneghan CJ, et al. The British journal of general practice : the journal of the Royal College of General Practitioners. 2015;65:e838-44.

This qualitative study examined interviews with general practitioners discussing missed and delayed diagnosis. Investigators found that cognitive biases and atypical disease presentations were common factors in diagnostic errors, consistent with prior literature. This work suggests the need for ongoing education about diagnosis for practicing clinicians.
