Patient safety rounds in a pediatric tertiary care center.
Executive walk rounds have been employed to bring senior executives to the bedside and engage them with frontline staff to learn about ongoing safety issues. A past study demonstrated that these rounds improve safety culture, but current literature has focused on the adult setting. This study describes the organization, implementation, and results from a similar intervention in the pediatric setting at an academic medical center. The authors provide several examples of safety issues discovered during rounds, how they were addressed, and their success in making the weekly rounds a mainstay of their patient safety program.
