Safety-I and Safety-II are regularly employed to improve patient safety. This paper explores the debate within safety science about Safety-I, Safety-II, and Safety-III approaches, and incorporates a risk science perspective. Integration of risk science and safety science can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the three approaches to safety.
