Remediation programs are used to address unprofessional behavior and misconduct that threaten patient safety. This qualitative study of regulators in the United Kingdom (UK) explored how remediation influences decision-making in cases of serious clinician misconduct (e.g., patient safety incidents, unprofessional behavior). The researchers found that remediation can mitigate the consequences of certain types of misconduct (such as clinical misconduct) but not for other types of misconduct (such as sexual misconduct and dishonesty).
