This observational study examined the effect of electronic health records on adverse events by comparing the number of events at hospitals with advanced electronic health records versus those without such records during the same timeframe. Researchers found that hospitals with advanced electronic health records experienced fewer adverse events, mostly notably medication errors, falls, and procedural complications. The authors conclude that advanced electronic health records improve patient safety.
