SBAR improves nurse–physician communication and reduces unexpected death: a pre and post intervention study.

This study evaluated training of hospital nurses in Belgium with a standardized nurse–physician communication method, SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation), and found that unplanned intensive care unit admission increased, unexpected deaths decreased, and there was no change in cardiac arrest team calls.
