Patient handovers are often incomplete due to nonurgent interruptions. This commentary describes an improvement project that applied the sterile cockpit concept to handover activities in a pediatric hospital and subsequent efforts to implement the intervention regionally. The authors spotlight the importance of leadership support, a validated tool set, and multidisciplinary engagement as factors contributing to the success of the initiative.
