Trends in central line–associated bloodstream infections in a trauma-surgical intensive care unit.

Rates of catheter-related bloodstream infections declined sharply in a trauma intensive care unit. The authors attributed this decline to a multifaceted quality improvement program that included standardized approaches to central line insertion and maintenance as well as audit and feedback of data.
