This qualitative study used interviews with faculty surgeons at an academic medical center to explore factors behind intraoperative decision-making. Although surgeons openly acknowledged that some external factors, like production pressures, affected their decisions, the authors noted less willingness to discuss authority gradients or monetary incentives.
