This study used direct observation and interviews to examine medication safety in nursing practice. Although the authors found widespread adherence to the traditional "five right" principles—administering the right medication, in the right dose, at the right time, by the right route, to the right patient—for safe administration, they suggest that enhanced medication reconciliation and pharmacologic knowledge are also needed among nurses.
