The AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) use hospitals' administrative data to measure patient safety events. In this analysis of malpractice claims data from Florida and Texas hospitals, investigators found that hospitals with higher rates of PSIs experienced an increased number of paid claims. Consistent with prior research, the authors suggest that improving patient safety may decrease costs associated with malpractice claims.
