Medication errors resulting in harm: using chargemaster data to determine association with cost of hospitalization and length of stay.

Adverse drug events are a significant source of patient harm. Using chargemaster data, this retrospective study found that hospitalizations during which a medication error caused harm had a longer median length of stay and higher cost compared to hospitalizations without such errors. These findings are consistent with prior research.
