Electronic prescribing is associated with improvements in medication safety, but it can also introduce problems unique to information technology use. This commentary discusses this issue in the context of reducing errors in outpatient psychiatry medication administration. The authors recommend increasing e-prescribing implementation, enhancing usability, and improving interoperabilty between hospital and retail pharmacy systems to achieve progress.
