Unit-based improvement approaches have achieved some success. This commentary describes a broad collaborative approach to improve the safety of neonatal intensive care at one hospital. The approach involved the use of trigger tool technology, patient and family advisory councils, and team quality improvement training. The authors suggest their multifactorial strategy is transferable to various care environments.
