Checklists for assessment and certification of clinical procedural skills omit essential competencies: a systematic review.

This review of methods for assessing trainees' competence at performing procedures found that many checklists did not evaluate performance of important patient safety steps, such as handwashing. Procedural safety and creation of specialized procedure services were discussed in an AHRQ WebM&M conversation and perspective.
