Nonstandardized patient wristbands have been identified as a potential safety hazard. In response, the United Kingdom's National Patient Safety Agency developed and disseminated a policy for wristband identification in 2005. This study found satisfactory implementation of the policy overall and identified some of the common barriers to implementation.
