Racial disparities in maternal safety are significant. In this study, 31 Black mothers described their experiences with healthcare providers and healthcare systems during pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. In line with other research, the women described structural and logistical challenges, providers who dismissed their concerns, preference for racial concordance with their provider, mental health concerns, and lack of social support.
