Ssssh for handover: protected medical handover; optimising quality and prioritising safety—a regional initiative.

Patient handovers are often incomplete due to nonurgent interruptions. This commentary describes an improvement project that applied the sterile cockpit concept to handover activities in a pediatric hospital and subsequent efforts to implement the intervention regionally. The authors spotlight the importance of leadership support, a validated tool set, and multidisciplinary engagement as factors contributing to the success of the initiative.
