The courage to speak out: a study describing nurses' attitudes to report unsafe practices in patient care.

Speaking up about safety hazards is a critical component of strong safety culture. Although most of the nurses in this convenience sample reported speaking up about safety issues, nearly 10% did not do so because they feared retaliation.
