This qualitative study provides vivid insight into the emotional distress experienced by clinicians who are involved in medical errors, illustrating why providers have been termed "second victims." The investigators used interviews with nurses who self-reported medication errors to identify factors that precipitated the error and the effect on nurses' subsequent emotional health and job performance.
